Defence Minister Rajnath Singh arrived in Srinagar today to assess the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir following Operation Sindoor, India’s decisive response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack.

This marks Singh’s first visit since the cessation of hostilities agreement between India and Pakistan, announced on May 10. Accompanied by Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Singh is set to meet with Indian Armed Forces personnel to discuss combat readiness and security measures.

Launched on May 7, Operation Sindoor targeted terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK). The Indian Air Force deployed Rafale jets equipped with SCALP missiles and HAMMER bombs, successfully eliminating over 100 terrorists within 23 minutes, without incurring any losses.

Pakistan retaliated with cross-border shelling and attempted drone attacks, prompting India to launch further airstrikes on Pakistani radar infrastructure, communication centres, and airfields across 11 airbases.

The cessation of hostilities has temporarily reduced tensions, but Singh’s visit signals India’s continued vigilance. Discussions with security forces will likely shape future strategies for maintaining stability in Jammu and Kashmir.
