An MP-MLA court in Jharkhand’s Chaibasa has issued a non-bailable warrant against Congress MP Rahul Gandhi in a defamation case.
The case, initiated by BJP leader Pratap Katiyar, stems from remarks made by Gandhi during the Congress’s plenary session in 2018.
Gandhi allegedly stated that even individuals facing “charges of murder” could hold leadership positions within the BJP, a remark that Katiyar deemed defamatory and insulting to BJP workers. The legal proceedings have been ongoing since 2018, and despite repeated summonses, Gandhi has avoided personal appearances in court.
The court’s latest directive orders Gandhi to appear in person on June 26, rejecting his plea for exemption from personal attendance. This development adds to his legal troubles amid an already politically charged atmosphere.
