Raghav Chadha has publicly reacted after being removed as the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) deputy leader in the Rajya Sabha.
In a video message shared on social media, Chadha questioned the decision and asked whether raising public issues in Parliament had become a “mistake.”
“Whenever I get the opportunity to speak in Parliament, I raise issues concerning the public. Is that a crime?” he said, expressing concern over what he described as attempts to silence his voice.
Raises Concerns Over Parliamentary Participation
Chadha suggested that he may have been restricted from speaking in the Rajya Sabha under the party’s quota. He highlighted that his parliamentary interventions have focused on everyday concerns, including rising airport food prices, gig workers’ rights, prepaid mobile plans, and taxation affecting the middle class.
“Why would anyone want to silence me?” he asked, adding that his commitment has always been to represent public interest.
AAP Replaces Chadha with Ashok Mittal
The Aam Aadmi Party replaced Chadha with Ashok Mittal as the deputy leader in the Rajya Sabha. The party has described the move as part of internal restructuring and has denied any restrictions on Chadha’s participation in parliamentary proceedings.
Despite the change, Chadha shared a compilation of his speeches in Parliament, reiterating his continued engagement with public issues.
Speculation Over Internal Rift
The development has sparked speculation about a possible internal rift within AAP. Political observers and opposition leaders have drawn parallels with past tensions involving key party figures.
Critics, including members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), suggested that the move indicates differences within the leadership of Arvind Kejriwal’s party. However, AAP leaders have dismissed such claims.
Background and Political Context
Chadha’s recent political stance and absence during certain key moments in the party’s timeline have also drawn attention. Notably, he was not present during protests following Kejriwal’s arrest in 2024, citing medical reasons at the time.
While the party maintains that the leadership change is routine, the timing and circumstances have led to ongoing political discussions.
‘Don’t Mistake My Silence for Defeat’
In his closing remarks, Chadha delivered a firm message: “Don’t mistake my silence for my defeat.” He also thanked supporters for their continued backing.
The situation continues to evolve, with political analysts closely watching whether this signals a deeper shift within AAP’s leadership dynamics.
