Once completed, the airport will have the capacity to handle 4.6 million passengers annually, drastically improving accessibility to the holy city of Puri. The project’s location, near Sipasarubali and Sandhapur villages under Brahmagiri tehsil, ensures seamless travel for pilgrims visiting the revered Jagannath Temple.
Officials expect the airport to have a six-lane high-speed corridor linking it to Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar, further strengthening Odisha’s aviation network. The development is anticipated to boost economic activity, generate employment, and position Puri as a global spiritual destination.
Tourism and transport experts believe the airport will revolutionise regional connectivity, encouraging international visitors and further cementing Odisha’s stature as a thriving cultural and religious hub.
