The Temporary Waiting Hall at Puri Railway Station will remain closed for a week starting August 25, as the East Coast Railway (ECoR) begins essential repair and renovation work.
According to railway officials, the closure is necessary to carry out repairs as part of the ongoing redevelopment project under the Amrit Station Scheme — an initiative by the Ministry of Railways to transform major stations across India into world-class transit hubs.
Railway authorities have urged passengers to cooperate during the temporary closure and plan their travel accordingly.
“We request the public to bear with us during this period of inconvenience. The repair is being carried out to enhance passenger comfort and station facilities in the long term,” a railway spokesperson said.
The temporary waiting hall, which serves hundreds of passengers daily, is being upgraded to improve cleanliness, safety, and seating comfort.
The Amrit Station Scheme aims to elevate the passenger experience at over 1,300 railway stations across the country. Puri Station, a major terminal serving thousands of pilgrims and tourists visiting the Jagannath Temple, is among the key stations undergoing transformation.
If all goes as scheduled, the waiting hall will reopen by September 1, 2025. In the meantime, passengers are advised to utilize other waiting areas and arrive at the station closer to their train’s departure time to avoid inconvenience.
