Punjab FC showcased a commanding performance in the Round of 16 of the Kalinga Super Cup 2025, defeating Odisha FC 3-0 at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.

Goals from Asmir Suljic (14’), Norberto “Pulga” Vidal (69’), and Nihal Sudeesh (90’) sealed the victory for Punjab FC, who looked transformed following a challenging Indian Super League (ISL) season.

Despite finishing tenth in the ISL, Punjab FC entered the match with renewed confidence, pairing solid defensive organisation with swift attacking transitions. Suljic opened the scoring early, converting a precise play after a sharp exchange of passes. Vidal, instrumental in midfield, constantly troubled Odisha FC’s defence, while Muheet Shabir ensured Punjab remained unchallenged at the back.

Odisha FC, having won only two of their last seven games, failed to find their rhythm. Without their key striker, Roy Krishna, their attacking line lacked composure, missing several promising chances. Hugo Boumous came close in the 43rd minute, but his effort was easily saved by Shabir.

Punjab FC capitalised on Odisha’s inefficiencies, with Vidal doubling the lead in the second half through a powerful left-footed shot. Nihal Sudeesh sealed the win in the 90th minute, confidently rounding the goalkeeper before finding the back of the net.

For his stellar midfield display and goal, Norberto “Pulga” Vidal was awarded the Kalinga Player of the Match. The victory sends Punjab FC into the quarter-finals, where they will aim to maintain their momentum.

Upcoming Quarter-Final Matches

Fans can look forward to Bengaluru FC vs. Inter Kashi at 4:30 PM IST and Mumbai City FC vs. Chennaiyin FC at 8 PM IST on April 23, 2025. Both matches will be streamed live on JioHotstar.
