Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi is set to visit Odisha on July 18, 2025, to address the tragic death of Soumyashree Bisi, a student of Fakir Mohan Autonomous College in Balasore, who died on July 14 after attempting self-immolation.

Bisi’s act was allegedly driven by distress over sexual harassment by a faculty member and inaction by college authorities.

As per sources, Gandhi will land in Bhubaneswar and proceed to Bhogarai, Balasore, to meet the bereaved family, offering condolences and support.

Sources indicate she aims to highlight issues of student safety and institutional accountability. Following the visit, Gandhi will hold a meeting at the Congress Bhavan in Bhubaneswar to discuss the incident and strategise on addressing similar concerns statewide.

The tragedy has sparked outrage, with protests demanding justice for Bisi.
