Indian cricketer Prithvi Shaw has officially approached the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) for a No Objection Certificate (NOC), indicating his interest in representing a different state team in the upcoming domestic cricket season.
In a letter addressed to the MCA, Shaw expressed his intent to pursue a new opportunity that he believes will support his continued growth as a professional cricketer. “At this juncture of my career, I have been presented with a promising opportunity to play under another State Association, which I believe will contribute to my development,” Shaw wrote.
This move follows a challenging period for the former India Under-19 World Cup-winning captain. He was dropped from Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy squad last season, with the selection committee citing fitness concerns. Shaw has also been absent from India’s List A cricket since the 2022 Vijay Hazare Trophy, although he featured for Northamptonshire in England’s One-Day Cup, scoring a notable 97 and 72 in his recent outings.
While speculation hinted at a possible switch to Maharashtra, officials from the Maharashtra Cricket Association have denied these reports. The MCA has yet to make a final decision on Shaw’s NOC request.
Once hailed as a rising star in Indian cricket, Shaw’s request signals a potential turning point as he looks to revitalise his domestic career with a fresh start.
