President Droupadi Murmu inaugurated the Nand Kishor Somani Oncology Block at Ramakrishna Mission Sevashram in Vrindavan, Uttar Pradesh, highlighting the Mission’s role in blending modern science with compassion.
Speaking at the event, the President praised the Ramakrishna Mission as a symbol of spiritual consciousness and humanitarian service. She noted that the Mission, inspired by Ramakrishna Paramahamsa and institutionalised by Swami Vivekananda, continues to spread the message of love, service, and compassion.
The President emphasised that cancer remains one of the most serious health challenges. She stressed the importance of timely diagnosis and affordable treatment, pointing out that financial constraints often prevent families from accessing care. Institutions like Ramakrishna Mission, she said, play a vital role in awareness, screening, and prevention.
Murmu highlighted India’s ongoing initiatives to strengthen healthcare infrastructure. She mentioned Ayushman Bharat as a historic scheme providing affordable medical services to millions, including cancer treatment for poor and needy patients.
The President remarked that medical institutions driven by service not only treat diseases but also instil hope and dignity in patients’ lives. She commended the Ramakrishna Mission for demonstrating how modern science and compassion together can achieve remarkable feats for humanity.
