Prajwal Revanna, former Member of Parliament and grandson of ex-Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, has been sentenced to life imprisonment for raping a domestic worker in Mysuru, Karnataka.
The Karnataka court has also imposed a fine of Rs 11 lakh, awarded as compensation to the survivor.
The shocking case emerged after the circulation of a pen drive containing explicit videos allegedly recorded by Revanna. Despite his claim that the footage was morphed, forensic reports and witness testimonies proved otherwise. Registered 14 months ago at the CID’s Cyber Crime Station, the case saw swift judicial progress with 23 witnesses and key forensic evidence examined over a span of seven months.
The trial, which began on December 31, 2024, underscores the growing accountability in cases of sexual assault involving powerful individuals. Prajwal Revanna had previously contested the 2024 Lok Sabha polls from Hassan on a BJP ticket.
