In a ceremony celebrating excellence in social service, journalism, and talent, the prestigious Pradyumna Bal Memorial Awards were presented to several distinguished individuals from across Odisha. The awards recognise contributions in various fields, highlighting the spirit of dedication and innovation.
The highlight of the event was the Pradyumna Bal Memorial Award, conferred upon Dr Arundhati Debi, a renowned social worker and leader of International Sovaniya Movement. Dr Debi received a citation, a memento, and a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh for her tireless efforts in community upliftment and advocacy.
Previously, the award carried a prize of Rs 50,000 for the past two years. This year, the amount was increased to Rs 1 lakh. Upon receiving the honor, Dr. Arundhati Debi dedicated the entire sum to support the welfare of children who have lost their parents.
In the journalism category, Shishir Kumar Das, a senior journalist from Soro in Balasore and representative of the ‘Pragativadi’ publication, was honoured with the Pradyumna Bal Best Journalism Award. Das was presented with ₹30,000, a memento, and a citation in recognition of his outstanding contributions to media and public discourse.
The Pradyumna Bal Personality Awards were bestowed upon three eminent figures: S.M. Farooq, a distinguished social worker from Bhadrak; Gopinath Singh, a noted environmentalist from Mayurbhanj; and Dr Harishchandra Prusty, a prominent historian and Buddhist researcher from Jajpur. These awards acknowledge their significant impacts on social welfare, environmental conservation, and historical research.
Additionally, the Pradyumna Bal Talent Awards went to two promising young achievers: Sumant Maharana, a youth talent from Nimapada in Puri, and Poojaswini Nayak, a para-athlete. Their awards celebrate emerging potential in arts and sports.
The Pradyumna Bal Memorial Awards, established to commemorate the legacy of Pradyumna Bal, continue to inspire individuals dedicated to societal progress.
