Extending greetings on the first day of Navratri, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said this year’s festival holds special significance as it coincides with the rollout of reduced GST rates — which he has termed a “savings festival.”
Wishing citizens good health and prosperity, the Prime Minister said the occasion should serve as a reminder of India’s resolve to become a developed and self-reliant nation.
The prime minister wished people good fortune and health during the festive period.
Push for Swadeshi Products
Modi called on people to make ‘swadeshi’ (indigenous products) a central part of their celebrations, just as it had strengthened India’s freedom movement.
“We have to make every home a symbol of swadeshi. We have to decorate every shop with swadeshi goods,” he said.
He stressed that a collective effort from citizens could accelerate the nation’s journey towards economic independence and growth.
GST Cuts to Boost Consumption
The Prime Minister’s message comes as reduced GST rates on over 375 items took effect on Monday, lowering prices of kitchen staples, medicines, appliances, and electronics. Modi said the move would energize consumer demand during the festive season and give relief to middle-class and poor households.
