Prime Minister Narendra Modi formally dedicated the Vizhinjam International Seaport to the nation today, marking a historic milestone in India’s maritime development.
The deepwater container terminal, located near Kerala’s capital, is expected to enhance the country’s strategic shipping capabilities, making it a crucial transhipment hub for global trade.
Though commercial operations began in December 2024, today’s commissioning underscores India’s commitment to modernising its port infrastructure and facilitating smoother international trade. Senior Congress leader and MP Shashi Tharoor welcomed PM Modi at the event, expressing pride in his long-standing involvement with the project.
With its strategic location and advanced infrastructure, Vizhinjam is set to become a key player in global logistics, further strengthening India’s presence in international trade routes.
