In a move to bolster bilateral relations, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced several key agreements and projects during his recent visit to Mauritius.
The visit, marked by the signing of multiple Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) and agreements, aims to enhance cooperation between the two nations across various sectors.
Major Agreements and MoUs Signed
- Reserve Bank of India and Bank of Mauritius: A framework established to promote the use of local currencies (INR or MUR) for cross-border transactions, facilitating smoother trade.
- Credit Facility Agreement: The Government of Mauritius and the State Bank of India have entered into a credit facility agreement to support financial collaboration.
- MSME Cooperation: An MoU between the Ministry of Industry, SME and Cooperatives of Mauritius and the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises of India to foster cooperation in the MSME sector.
- Foreign Service Cooperation: An MoU signed between the Sushma Swaraj Institute of Foreign Service, India, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration & International Trade of Mauritius.
- Public Service and Administrative Reforms: An MoU between the Ministry of Public Service and Administrative Reforms, Mauritius, and the National Centre for Good Governance, India, aiming to improve public service efficiency.
- White Shipping Information: A technical agreement on sharing white shipping information between the Indian Navy and the Government of Mauritius.
- Ocean Information Services: An MoU between the Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services and the Prime Minister’s Office of Mauritius to enhance maritime cooperation.
- Financial Crimes Cooperation: An MoU between the Directorate of Enforcement, India, and the Financial Crimes Commission of Mauritius to tackle financial crimes collaboratively.
Inauguration of Institutes and Projects
During his visit, Prime Minister Modi inaugurated the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Public Service and Innovation, the Mauritius Area Health Centre at Cap Malheureux, and 20 High Impact Community Development Projects (HICDP).
Navigational Chart Handover
In a gesture of maritime cooperation, a navigational chart of St. Brandon Island, prepared following a hydrography survey by the Indian Naval Ship, was handed over to Mauritius.

Prime Minister Modi announced India’s support for the construction of a new Parliament building in Mauritius and the initiation of Phase-II of High Impact Community Development projects.
