Prime Minister Narendra Modi and senior leaders of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) formally felicitated C.P. Radhakrishnan, the alliance’s vice-presidential candidate, during a high-level Parliamentary Party meeting held in the capital today.
Radhakrishnan, currently serving as the Governor of Maharashtra, is expected to file his nomination on Wednesday, August 20. With the NDA holding a comfortable majority in the electoral college, his victory is widely anticipated.
The meeting, attended by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and other prominent BJP allies, underscored the alliance’s unified stance ahead of the upcoming vice-presidential election. Sources indicate that the Opposition INDIA bloc may field a separate candidate, setting the stage for a contest.
A seasoned politician from Tamil Nadu, Radhakrishnan’s nomination is seen as a strategic move to reinforce regional representation and consolidate support across southern states.
The NDA’s show of strength and solidarity at the meeting signals its readiness to face any challenge posed by the Opposition, while reaffirming its confidence in Radhakrishnan’s leadership and experience.
