Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of multiple development projects worth more than Rs 2,700 crore in Puducherry today.
The projects span infrastructure, education, health, housing, and mobility, aimed at transforming the lives of people across Puducherry, Karaikal, Mahe, and Yanam.
Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister described Puducherry as the land of saints, poets, and freedom fighters, recalling Mahakavi Subramania Bharati’s role in igniting nationalism and Sri Aurobindo’s spiritual vision. He reiterated his mantra for “BEST Puducherry,” representing Business, Education, Spirituality, and Tourism, noting that this vision has driven growth and good governance.
Highlighting the national focus on infrastructure, Modi pointed to the record Rs 12 lakh crore allocation in this year’s budget. He announced Puducherry’s inclusion under the “Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment” scheme, ensuring more funding for roads, schools, hospitals, and water supply.
The Prime Minister inaugurated the Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Engineering Block and modern hostel facilities at NIT Karaikal, alongside upgrades at Pondicherry University. He emphasised that these initiatives will strengthen technical education and empower youth. He also flagged off electric buses under PM e‑Bus Sewa, calling them a game-changer for cleaner mobility in Puducherry’s tourism sector.
Other projects include housing schemes, water desalination plants, sewage treatment facilities, and flood‑control measures. Modi stressed that all efforts aim to provide “Ease of Living” for Puducherry’s people.
Tourism received special attention, with investments in spiritual, eco, and health tourism, including temple facilities under the PRASHAD Scheme. Modi expressed happiness at the Global Spiritual Mahotsav beginning in Auroville, calling it a unifying event. He concluded by reaffirming the mission to build a “developed Puducherry and a developed India by 2047.”
Delighted to be among the wonderful people of Puducherry. Today, multiple development works are being launched that will enhance ease of living and boost the region’s economic growth.
