Details of the Tragic Accident
The fatal accident occurred around 3:30 a.m. near Chinnatekur village in Kallur mandal, Kurnool district. The private bus, operated by Kaveri Travels, was en route from Hyderabad to Bengaluru with approximately 44 passengers on board.
According to police reports, the bus collided with a motorcycle on National Highway 44. The two-wheeler became trapped under the bus, rupturing the fuel tank and causing a sudden explosion. Within moments, the vehicle was engulfed in flames.
Many passengers were asleep when the fire broke out. While several managed to escape through broken windows, others were trapped inside as the blaze spread rapidly.
Rescue and Relief Efforts
Kurnool District Collector A Siri confirmed that 21 passengers were rescued safely, while 20 people were found dead. The bodies of 11 victims have been identified, and efforts are underway to identify the remaining passengers.
Police, fire services, and rescue teams reached the scene shortly after the incident. The injured were rushed to Kurnool Government General Hospital for treatment. Preliminary investigations suggest fuel leakage and collision impact as the primary causes of the fire.
