A plus 3 final-year student of Rayagada Autonomous College was found hanging inside her rented room under suspicious circumstances.
The deceased, identified as 20-year-old Lija Pidikaka, hailed from Niali village under Muniguda police limits. She was residing in a rented accommodation at Fourth Lane, Gandhinagar in Rayagada town.
According to initial reports, Lija’s roommates became concerned when she did not open her room door on Tuesday. After repeated calls went unanswered, they forced the door open and discovered her hanging inside. They immediately informed the police and rushed her to the Rayagada District Headquarters Hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.
Police suspect suicide, as a rope was found at the scene. However, the exact cause of death remains unclear. Lija was staying with three other girls in the same house, and investigators are recording their statements to gather more details.
Rayagada police reached the spot and sent the body for post-mortem. After the autopsy, the body was handed over to her family. Officers are examining possible reasons behind the suspected suicide, including academic pressure, personal issues, or other circumstances.
The incident has shocked the local community and raised concerns about student mental health and safety. Authorities have urged educational institutions to provide better support systems for students dealing with stress or emotional challenges.
