A pilgrim bus returning from Nepal met with a serious accident near Kenaveta village under Bonai Police Station limits in Odisha’s Sundargarh district on Tuesday evening, leaving three passengers injured.
The incident occurred on National Highway-143 when a speeding truck allegedly rammed into the rear of the bus. The bus was carrying pilgrims from Angul who had just completed their pilgrimage in Nepal and were heading back home.
According to preliminary reports, the impact caused the bus to veer out of control, though it did not overturn. While three passengers sustained minor injuries, the rest of the pilgrims escaped unhurt. No fatalities were reported in the mishap.
Local residents and fellow motorists rushed to the spot and assisted the injured. Police and emergency services reached the location promptly, shifted the injured to a nearby hospital for treatment, and cleared the highway to restore traffic movement.
Bonai police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the exact cause of the accident. Speeding by the truck and possible negligence are being probed.
