A remarkable story of courage has emerged from Malkangiri district, where physically disabled student Lakshmi Khemudu wrote her matriculation examination using her foot.
Born with immobile hands and unable to walk properly, Lakshmi refused to let disability define her future.
Lakshmi, daughter of Narayan and Subhadra Khemudu from Bandhguda village under Sindhrimal Panchayat, has practised writing with her foot since childhood. Despite financial hardship, her parents never neglected her education. Teachers at her school provided equal opportunities and encouragement, ensuring she could study alongside other students.
For the matric exam, authorities offered permission for another person to write on her behalf. Lakshmi, however, insisted on writing the paper herself with her foot. Headmistress Mukta Behera and teacher M. Roja praised her determination, saying she wanted to prove that strong willpower can overcome any obstacle.
Lakshmi dreams of becoming a teacher in the future. School authorities have assured full support for her higher education. Her achievement has inspired the community, proving that disability cannot stop someone with courage and perseverance.
