In a disturbing development from the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation (RWSS) department, a peon was arrested by the R. Udaygiri Police for allegedly serving urine instead of drinking water to an engineer.
The incident reportedly occurred while the official was at work.
According to sources, the engineer—unaware of the act—consumed the contaminated fluid and soon fell seriously ill. He was rushed to Berhampur Medical College and Hospital for treatment. Following recovery, the engineer filed a formal complaint at the R. Udaygiri Police Station, prompting an investigation.
Police confirmed the arrest of the accused peon and stated that further inquiries are underway to determine the motive and circumstances of the act. The incident has sent shockwaves through the department and raised serious concerns over workplace ethics and safety.
Officials said departmental proceedings may be initiated after the police probe concludes. Citizens and RWSS employees alike have called for strict action and preventive measures to avoid such occurrences in the future.
