Actor Pavithra Gowda was arrested on August 14, just hours after the Supreme Court revoked the bail granted to her, actor Darshan, and other accused in the Renukaswamy murder case.
The apex court, led by Justices J B Pardiwala and R Mahadevan, criticised the Karnataka High Court’s earlier decision, citing “serious infirmities” and ordered the immediate arrest of all involved.
The case revolves around the abduction and torture of 33-year-old Renukaswamy, a fan who allegedly sent obscene messages to Gowda. According to police reports, the victim was held captive in a shed in Bengaluru for three days in June 2024 before being found dead in a drain.
The Supreme Court also issued a stern warning to the Karnataka government against providing preferential treatment to the accused while in custody. Darshan, reportedly in Mysore, is expected to be arrested soon as Bengaluru police intensify their search.
This development marks a significant escalation in a case that has gripped public attention for over a year. The court has emphasised the need for an expedited trial to ensure justice is served.
