At least seven people lost their lives and five others sustained injuries after multiple avalanches struck the Srinagar–Leh National Highway near Zojila Pass on today.
The snow slides buried nearly a dozen vehicles between Zero Point and Minimarg, forcing authorities to temporarily close the highway.
Rescue operations were immediately launched by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) and disaster relief teams, who worked to clear snow and assist trapped passengers.
Officials confirmed that the situation is being closely monitored, with Ladakh Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena directing relief mobilisation. Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh expressed condolences and assured support for the affected families.
