The Panposh railway station is set for redevelopment as an outer station for Rourkela, enhancing connectivity and decongesting the city’s main railway hub, Rourkela Junction.
The proposal, backed by Ramesh Agarwal, a member of the Zonal Railway Users’ Consultative Committee (ZRUCC), is under consideration by South Eastern Railway (SER).
A crucial part of this plan is the proposed Lathikata-Kalunga freight railway line, which aims to reroute freight trains, freeing up capacity for passenger services at Rourkela Junction. This would enable more trains to originate from Panposh, mirroring the successful Adityapur-Tatanagar station model in Jharkhand.
Boost to Tourism and Regional Development
Panposh serves as a key entry point to Rourkela and is located near the revered Vedvyas Dham, a significant religious and heritage site. To enhance tourism, the Odisha government has proposed a ₹60 crore suspension bridge linking Vedvyas Dham to Panposh, further boosting the area’s accessibility.
