Participation of Bangladesh cricketers in the upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026 season remains uncertain as players await official clearance from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) amid ongoing security concerns.
Bangladesh’s State Minister for Youth and Sports, Aminul Haque, stated that the government will prioritise player safety before approving participation. He emphasised that a final decision will be taken only after receiving formal input from the BCB and conducting necessary assessments through national security agencies.
The uncertainty follows a revised schedule announced by the Pakistan Cricket Board, under which PSL 2026 matches will be held exclusively in Karachi and Lahore, and played behind closed doors. The move comes in response to regional tensions and heightened security considerations, which have already led to multiple withdrawals and travel advisories.
Currently, six Bangladesh players — Mustafizur Rahman, Parvez Hossain Emon, Shoriful Islam, Nahid Rana, Tanzid Hasan Tamim, and Rishad Hossain — have been granted No Objection Certificates (NOCs) by the BCB. However, their participation remains subject to final government approval.
Officials have indicated that if adequate security assurances are provided, participation may still be permitted. The government has reiterated its commitment to supporting sports while ensuring the safety and well-being of all athletes.
IPL Broadcast Ban Under Review
In a related development, Aminul Haque confirmed that the government will review the recent suspension of broadcasting the Indian Premier League (IPL) in Bangladesh after the Eid break. The decision reportedly stems from diplomatic tensions, including issues surrounding player participation and team selections earlier this year.
Despite these challenges, the minister stressed the importance of keeping sports separate from political disputes, highlighting the role of cricket in fostering regional goodwill and cooperation.
