Sambalpur: A truck laden with paddy was seized near Satupali under Dhankauda block in Sambalpur district on Friday due to suspicions of inter-state supply.
The Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Department of the Odisha government seized the truck which bears registration number WB33-B-0145.
According to reports, local farmers initially spotted the truck and alerted the Supply Department, suspecting illegal inter-state paddy supply.
Upon receiving this information, officials from the Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Department and the Supply Officer from the Dhankauda block arrived at the location and conducted an investigation into the matter.
It is estimated that the truck was loaded with over 200 quintals of paddy. A person from the Lahunipada area in Sundargarh district claims to be the owner of the truck and its contents.
However, while this individual was able to present documents for the vehicle, he could not provide any documentation for the paddy. In light of these developments, officials seized the paddy-laden vehicle, which has since been stored at a rice mill in Kardola Gram Panchayat.
Questions have now arisen regarding how paddy from a different district was transported to a rice mill in Sambalpur district using a truck registered in a neighbouring state.
The Supply Department has initiated an investigation into the incident that seized the documents. However, no responses regarding the have been obtained by the officials or the truck owner.
