A major job scam in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district has come to light, with over 15 job seekers allegedly cheated out of Rs 20 lakh by a group impersonating a senior IAS officer.
Khunta Police detained three individuals, including two government employees, in connection with the fraudulent scheme.
The key accused, Manoj Acharya, an assistant teacher at Bairatpur School in Udala, along with engineer Dilip Jena and Lohitash Jena of Baripada, reportedly promised fake government jobs in sectors such as Indian Railways, police, and outsourcing firms. Victims were lured with false guarantees of employment, officials stated.
Police investigations reveal that the accused collected large sums of money, exploiting the aspirations of young job seekers. “Around 10–12 victims have come forward so far, and we anticipate more complaints as the probe continues,” said Panchanana Mohanty, IIC, Khunta Police Station.
Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and verify the authenticity of job offers to avoid falling prey to such scams. Further investigations are underway to ascertain the extent of the fraudulent operations.
