Two terrorists attempting to infiltrate across the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district were gunned down by Indian Army troops during a late-night encounter in the Degwar sector, officials confirmed on Wednesday.
The gunfight erupted in the Kalsian-Gulpur area after troops from the Indian Army’s 16 Corps detected suspicious movement and engaged the infiltrators. The operation, launched late Tuesday, is still ongoing.
In a statement, the Army said:
“OPERATION SHIVSHAKTI: In a successful anti-infiltration operation, alert troops of the Indian Army eliminated two terrorists attempting to cross the LoC.”
The encounter followed coordinated intelligence inputs from the Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police, highlighting a well-synergised counter-terror operation.
Officials also confirmed the recovery of three weapons from the slain terrorists.
“Swift action and accurate firepower thwarted the nefarious designs,” the Army said.
Earlier updates from the Army’s White Knight Corps (X handle) revealed that troops had observed movement near the LoC fence and responded promptly, initiating a firefight with the infiltrators.
The area remains under surveillance as the Army continues its cordon and search operations to rule out the presence of any additional infiltrators.
