The Odisha police have launched a statewide anti-narcotics campaign titled “Operation Prahar” under the directive of the Odisha government.
The operation, which ran from September 1 to 7, witnessed coordinated raids across all districts targeting illegal drug trade.
During this period, police registered 110 cases and arrested 157 individuals involved in drug trafficking. The crackdown yielded significant results:
- Ganja Seizures: 72 cases were registered, leading to the confiscation of 4,808 kg of ganja and the arrest of 93 accused.
- Brown Sugar: 27 cases were filed, resulting in the seizure of 2,374 grams and 45 arrests.
- Cough Syrup: 3,052 bottles were seized in connection with 19 arrests linked to illegal distribution.
Additionally, action was taken against 70 individuals under Section 129 of the BNSS, and three shops involved in drug trafficking were permanently shut down.
The Odisha Police Headquarters confirmed that the operation will continue in phases to dismantle drug networks and ensure public safety. Authorities have urged citizens to report suspicious activities and support the mission to build a drug-free society.
