Under the directive of Odisha’s Director General of Police (DGP) Yogesh Bahadur Khurania, a statewide anti-crime initiative titled Operation “Garuda” was launched on August 1.
Spearheaded by district SPs and supervised by Additional DGP (Law & Order) Shri Sanjay Kumar, the operation aims to curb criminal activities and enforce pending warrants. It will continue until August 14.
The campaign targets key areas, including the execution of non-bailable warrants (NBWs), crackdown on narcotics, seizure of illegal arms, arrest of wanted criminals, and raids on gambling dens. In its first week, the operation has yielded significant results across all districts.
🔍 Key Achievements:
- NBWs Executed: 3,189
- Excise Cases: 890 cases registered; 17,069.55 litres of liquor seized
- Illegal Arms Seized: 51 firearms, 95 rounds of ammunition, Rs 1,45,500 in cash
- NDPS Cases: 11 cases; 888 kg ganja, 68.57 gm brown sugar seized; 2 cars and Rs 63,750 recovered
- Gambling Raids: 11 cases; Rs 2,79,485 seized
- Criminals Arrested: 129
- Drunken Driving: 115 cases; 115 vehicles seized
📍 District Highlights:
- Ganjam: 10 firearms seized, 13 arrests
- Rourkela: 10 firearms seized from one individual
- Kandhamal: 535 kg ganja seized, 15 arrests
- Keonjhar: Highest excise action with 107 cases and 1,509 litres of liquor seized
- Rourkela (Gambling): Rs 1,48,330 seized, 17 arrests
Odisha Police reaffirmed its commitment to public safety and pledged to continue such operations in the future to ensure law and order across the state.
