In a significant development for Odisha cricket, veteran right-arm medium bowler Suryakant Pradhan has announced his immediate retirement from all formats of the game.
The announcement marks the end of an illustrious career that spanned over a decade, during which Pradhan became a cornerstone of the state’s cricketing success.
Pradhan’s journey with Odisha cricket began at the grassroots level, progressing through various age-group categories from Under-16 to the senior men’s team. His consistent performances and unwavering dedication earned him a reputation as a reliable wicket-taker across domestic circuits.
In First-Class cricket, Pradhan featured in 62 matches, claiming an impressive 197 wickets with his best figures of 7 for 40. He made his First-Class debut against Karnataka on November 28, 2013, and played his final match against Maharashtra on November 13, 2024. In the List A format, he appeared in 35 games, securing 46 wickets with a standout performance of 7 for 39. His T20 career included 52 matches, where he took 47 wickets, delivering crucial spells that often turned games in Odisha’s favor.
The Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) has expressed profound gratitude for Pradhan’s contributions. In a statement, OCA President Pankaj Lochan Mohanty, Secretary Sanjay Behera, along with all office-bearers and members, congratulated him on his remarkable career and extended best wishes for his future endeavors.
