The Central Government has appointed Shirish Chandra Murmu, currently serving as Executive Director at the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), as the new Deputy Governor of RBI for a tenure of three years, effective October 9.
Murmu will succeed Rajeshwar Rao, who retires on October 8. His elevation marks a significant milestone for Odisha, with Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi congratulating Murmu and calling the appointment “a matter of pride for the state.”
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the Chief Minister said, “It is a matter of pride for all of us that an Odia has been appointed to such an important position in the country’s apex bank. I am confident that his experience and performance as Executive Director of RBI will contribute to strengthening the financial system and economy of the country.”
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Deputy CMs Pravati Parida and KV Singh Deo, and other ministers extended heartfelt congratulations to Shri Shirish Chandra Murmu on his appointment as Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
