Odisha witnessed a marginal increase in the crime rate during 2024 compared to the previous year, as informed by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi in the state Assembly.
A total of 2,14,113 criminal cases were registered in 2024, up from 1,99,954 cases in 2023. The Chief Minister attributed this rise to factors such as population growth, increased reporting of cases, and rapid economic development.
Specifically, theft cases increased from 16,851 to 17,805, accident-related cases rose from 11,992 to 12,375, and rape cases surged from 2,826 to 3,054.
