Odisha Vigilance Directorate has permanently withheld the pensionary benefits of Ramesh Chandra Behera.
Behera served as Assistant Commercial Tax Officer at Unified Check Gate, Chikiti in Ganjam district. He was convicted under Section 13(2) read with 13(1)(e) of the PC Act, 2018 and Section 109 IPC.
The case involved possession of disproportionate assets during his tenure. The Special Judge, Vigilance, Berhampur sentenced him to three years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine.
Following the conviction, Odisha Vigilance moved the competent authority for disciplinary action. The authority invoked provisions under OCS (Pension) Rules, 1992 to withhold Behera’s pension.
The decision was made to uphold accountability and deter corruption in public service. Behera’s benefits were withheld in full and permanently, marking a rare enforcement step. The case highlights Vigilance Directorate’s commitment to integrity in government departments.
