Odisha Vigilance on Monday apprehended Sri Jagaa Bariha, Sub-Inspector of Police, Bijepur Police Station, Bargarh district, while accepting a bribe of Rs 7,000 from a scrap dealer.
According to officials, Bariha had initially demanded Rs 10,000 from the complainant to allow smooth business operations and to avoid lodging any case against him. When the complainant expressed his inability to pay, the demand was reduced to Rs 7,000, coupled with threats of “strong action” if the money was not paid.
Left with no choice, the complainant approached Odisha Vigilance, which laid a trap. Bariha was caught red-handed while receiving the tainted bribe money, which has been recovered and seized from his possession.
Following the successful trap, simultaneous searches are underway at three locations linked to Bariha to examine assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
A case has been registered at Sambalpur Vigilance Police Station (Case No.16 dated 24.08.2025, under Section 7 of the PC (Amendment) Act, 2018). The investigation is currently in progress.
