The Special Judge, Vigilance, Balasore has convicted Manohar Behera, retired Secretary of the Osanga Service Co-operative Society under BBCC Bank Ltd., Khaira Branch, Balasore district.
Behera was charge-sheeted by Odisha Vigilance under multiple sections, including 13(2) r/w 13(1)(c)(d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and Sections 409 & 477-A of the Indian Penal Code. The charges pertained to the misappropriation of government funds through the manipulation of official records during his tenure.
After thorough judicial proceedings, the court sentenced Behera to three years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 50,000.
Following the conviction, Odisha Vigilance has initiated steps to approach the competent authority to terminate Behera’s pension benefits, reinforcing its stance on zero tolerance toward corruption, even post-retirement.
This case underlines the vigilance department’s proactive approach in ensuring accountability within cooperative institutions and financial services across Odisha.
