In a crackdown on financial irregularities in cooperative societies, Odisha Vigilance today arrested Sri Subal Kumar Sahu, the former Secretary (who has been dismissed from service) of Dahunda Service Co-operative Society under Bhogarai Block in Balasore district.
Sahu stands accused of misappropriating government funds amounting to Rs 19,80,255 by fraudulently extending crop insurance benefits to ineligible members during the financial year 2014-15. According to Vigilance officials, the accused manipulated official records to facilitate these wrongful disbursements, causing substantial loss to the exchequer.
The arrest follows a detailed investigation by the Vigilance team, which uncovered evidence of deliberate falsification of documents to siphon off funds meant for genuine farmers under the government’s crop insurance scheme.
In connection with the case, Balasore Vigilance Police Station Case No. 03/2026 has been registered under Section 13(2) read with 13(1)(a) of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. Sahu was produced before the Special Judge, Vigilance, Balasore, and remanded to judicial custody.
The investigation remains ongoing, with Vigilance authorities expected to probe deeper into possible larger conspiracies or involvement of other individuals in the co-operative society.
