The Odisha government announced that its Mahanadi Committee will visit Chhattisgarh on January 31 and February 1 to present the state’s position on the ongoing Mahanadi water dispute.

Meanwhile, an all-party meeting will convene on January 23 to finalise Odisha’s strategy before the visit.

Deputy Chief Minister KV Singh Deo confirmed that Odisha will place its arguments before the Chhattisgarh government and later before the Mahanadi Water Disputes Tribunal. Furthermore, he stated that the next tribunal hearing is scheduled for February 7.

Singh Deo explained that the tribunal, constituted on March 12, 2018, will complete its tenure on March 13, 2026. Therefore, Odisha has requested the Central Government to extend the tribunal’s tenure to ensure a comprehensive resolution of the dispute.

In addition, the preparatory meeting chaired by Singh Deo included Revenue Minister Suresh Pujari, Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan, BJD legislator Niranjan Pujari, Congress MLA Sofia Firdous, and the Chief Whip of the ruling party. The leaders discussed Odisha’s strategy and emphasised the importance of presenting a united front.
