Rain interrupted play at a crucial stage of the India vs Bangladesh ICC Under-19 World Cup 2026 match on Saturday, halting India’s momentum with 11 overs remaining in their innings.

At the stoppage, India U19 were 192/6 after 39 overs, with Abhigyan Kundu and RS Ambrish unbeaten at the crease. The weather break came just as India appeared to be rebuilding strongly after a shaky start.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi Breaks Records

Fourteen-year-old batting prodigy Vaibhav Suryavanshi once again stole the spotlight with a sensational knock of 72 off 67 balls, making him India’s top scorer in the match.

During his innings, Suryavanshi:

  • Broke Virat Kohli’s record for the most runs by an Indian in youth ODIs

  • Became the youngest player ever to score a half-century in U19 World Cup history

His composed yet aggressive batting helped India recover after early setbacks.

Abhigyan Kundu Anchors the Innings

Wicketkeeper-batter Abhigyan Kundu played a crucial stabilising role, scoring a patient half-century under pressure. His partnership contributions were vital after India lost quick wickets in the powerplay.

India’s Early Collapse

India had a difficult start, losing Ayush Mhatre, Vedant Trivedi and Vihaan Malhotra inside the powerplay. The early collapse left India struggling before Suryavanshi and Kundu helped steady the innings.

Tense Moment at Toss

Adding to the match’s intensity, India captain Ayush Mhatre and Bangladesh skipper Azizul Hakim Tamim did not shake hands at the toss, a moment that drew attention amid ongoing political tensions between the two countries.

What’s Next

With rain halting play at a decisive point, the resumption could significantly influence the final outcome. India will aim to maximise the remaining overs once play resumes, while Bangladesh will look to restrict the total and capitalise on any pressure.
