Odisha will join the nationwide Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS)‑2026 campaign from September 17 to October 2, focusing on cleanliness, sanitation, dignity of sanitation workers, and sustainable urban living.
The campaign was discussed in a meeting with the Union Minister, MoHUA, attended by Housing and Urban Development Minister Dr Krushna Chandra Mahapatra, senior officials including ACS Smt. Usha Padhee, Director Arindam Dakua, and Mission Director Binay Kumar Dash.
Following the meeting, the H&UD Department directed all ULBs to ensure whole‑of‑society participation. Dr Mahapatra announced initiatives including lighting one crore lamps across districts, sanitation drives in rural and urban areas, and documentation of improvements through videos.
The campaign theme, “Swachhata Mein Sahbhag, Swachh Bharat, Viksit Bharat”, will emphasise five pillars:
- Cleanliness Target Units (CTUs) and garbage vulnerable points
- Youth engagement through Swachhata Gyan Yatras and Samvads
- SafaiMitra Suraksha Shivirs for health and welfare
- Jan Bhagidari via zero‑waste sports and eco‑friendly celebrations
- Swachhata Se Samriddhi, promoting circular economy practices
A major highlight will be the “Ek Din, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath” Shramdaan drive on October 1, encouraging collective citizen participation. The campaign will culminate on October 2 with Swachh Bharat Diwas, alongside ULB council reviews.
Officials stressed that the initiative reinforces the message that cleanliness is a shared responsibility, requiring sustained Jan Bhagidari for a healthier, inclusive, and sustainable Odisha.
