The Odisha government has drawn up an ambitious plan to construct 143 Railway Overbridges (ROBs) in the state to eliminate level crossings and improve road-rail safety.
Replying to a question by MLA Ashwini Patra in the Assembly, PWD Minister Prithviraj Harichandan informed that out of the 143 proposed ROBs, 96 in the East Coast Railway zone and 9 in the South East Railway zone — a total of 105 ROBs — have been fully approved for 100% funding and execution by Indian Railways.
For the remaining 38 ROBs, 32 will be constructed on a 50:50 cost-sharing basis between the Railways and the State Government, while the remaining 6 ROBs will be taken up under the Setu Bandhan scheme.
In addition, the Minister informed the House that ring road construction work is currently underway in several parts of the state, including the capital Bhubaneswar and districts such as Bolangir, Balasore, Cuttack, Ganjam, Jharsuguda, Kalahandi, Khurda, Kendrapara, and Keonjhar.
