Babilata Behera, a former Supply Inspector in Kaniha Block, Angul District, and currently posted as a Supply Inspector at the office of the Chief Supply Officer (CSO) in Baripada, Mayurbhanj District, was convicted in a bribery case by the Special Judge, Vigilance, in Angul.
Behera faced charges under Sections 13(2) read with 13(1)(d)/7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 43,000 from a sub-wholesale kerosene oil dealer. The bribe was allegedly taken to sign a utilisation certificate for kerosene oil distribution and to issue a release order in the dealer’s favour.
Following a thorough investigation by Odisha Vigilance, Behera was found guilty and sentenced to four years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine. She was immediately taken into jail custody to serve her sentence.
Odisha Vigilance has announced plans to move the competent authority to seek Behera’s dismissal from service, citing her conviction as grounds for termination.
