Odisha Sports Minister Suryabanshi Suraj Honours International Achievers with Cash Rewards

In a ceremony highlighting Odisha’s growing prominence in the world of sports, Minister for Sports and Youth Services Suryabanshi Suraj honoured four exceptional athletes for their international accomplishments.


The event, held today, underscored the state government’s commitment to fostering talent and recognising excellence that puts Odisha on the global map.

The felicitation included cash incentives as a gesture of appreciation for the athletes’ dedication and hard work. Loma Swain, who secured a Bronze medal at the 2025 Tokyo Deaflympics, was awarded Rs 5,00,000. Sarthak Arya received Rs 2,09,000 for his Bronze medal at the 3rd Asian Youth Games. Chess prodigy Padmini Rout was presented with Rs 2,00,000 for her Bronze medal at the 2025 FIDE World Women’s Team Chess Championship. Weightlifter Bidushmita Bhoi, who clinched Gold at the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship, was honoured with Rs 1,33,000.

Speaking at the event, Minister Suraj praised the athletes, saying, “The hard work and perseverance of our athletes have carved a unique identity for Odisha on the global map. The State Government remains committed to providing the right platform for every talent and aims to transform Odisha into a premier sports hub of the country.” He highlighted how these achievements inspire young aspirants and reiterated plans to upgrade sports infrastructure and facilities to world-class standards.

The ceremony was graced by prominent figures, including Shri Sachin Ramachandra Jadhav (IAS), Commissioner-cum-Secretary of the Sports and Youth Services Department; Dr Yedula Vijay (IAS), Director of Sports; and Padma Shri Dilip Tirkey, President of Hockey India. Senior department officials also attended, adding to the event’s significance.
