Odisha braces for a severe heatwave beginning today, with temperatures expected to rise by 4 to 6 degrees across several regions.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow warning for 11 districts, cautioning residents about extreme heat conditions.
Western Odisha districts, including Balangir, Bargarh, Sambalpur, and Jharsuguda, may see mercury levels touching 40°C. Coastal districts will experience intense humidity, adding to the discomfort. The IMD forecast indicates that unbearable heat and sultry weather will dominate from April 12 to 14, with conditions worsening after April 15 when temperatures are likely to surpass 40°C statewide.
Districts under yellow warning include Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Khordha, Puri, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati. Authorities urged people to take precautions against heat-related illnesses and limit outdoor activities during peak hours.
Meteorologists highlighted that the combination of rising temperatures and humidity will create challenging conditions across Odisha. The IMD advised residents to stay hydrated, avoid direct sun exposure, and remain alert to weather updates.
