A two-day conference for Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs), organised by the Election Commission of India (ECI), began today at the India International Institute of Democracy and Electoral Management (IIIDEM) in New Delhi.
R.S. Gopalan, IAS, the Chief Electoral Officer of Odisha, attended the conference alongside Additional Chief Electoral Officer Sushant Mishra and Deputy Chief Electoral Officer Dr. Laxmi Prasad Sahu.
The conference was inaugurated under the chairmanship of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and was also attended by Election Commissioners Dr. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Dr. Vivek Joshi.
During the conference, the Election Commission reviewed the readiness of CEO offices across all states and Union Territories for the upcoming nationwide Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise. This conference continues the preparatory work from a meeting held on September 10, 2025, where detailed presentations were made regarding the number of voters from the previous SIR, the qualifying date for that SIR, and the overall status of voter lists in each state and Union Territory.
The Commission also evaluated the progress made by the CEOs based on earlier instructions regarding the mapping of current voters to the previous voter base in their respective jurisdictions. Additionally, the status of appointments and training for District Election Officers (DEOs), Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs), Booth Level Officers (BLOs), and Booth Level Agents (BLAs) was reviewed.
