Odisha’s Science & Technology Minister Krushna Chandra Patra met Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh in New Delhi to seek central support for major scientific projects, including a world-class Science City in Bhubaneswar and a dedicated Space Innovation Hub.
The state government has already identified 100 acres of land on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar for the Science City. Officials envision it as an interactive hub with modern exhibits and immersive learning spaces designed to inspire youth and promote scientific awareness.
During the meeting, both ministers discussed establishing a Space Innovation Hub to support startups and research in satellite data applications. The initiative will leverage the expertise of the Odisha Space Applications Centre (ORSAC) and research labs such as VSSUT Burla, positioning Odisha as a leader in space-tech entrepreneurship.
The ministers also reviewed plans to roll out Bio e-Cells in Odisha under the national Bio-E3 Policy. These cells will focus on high-performance biomanufacturing, eco-friendly technologies, and transforming laboratory research into viable biotech products.
Minister Patra expressed gratitude for the Centre’s mentorship and technical cooperation, emphasising that synergy between the state and central governments will be key to transforming Odisha into a leading scientific and industrial hub. Dr Singh lauded Odisha’s proactive approach and assured full central support, highlighting that the projects align with the “Viksit Bharat” vision.
