To enhance foundational learning, the Odisha government is set to distribute “Jaadu Pedi” (magic box) kits to students in Sishu Vatika and Classes I and II across the state.
This initiative, in alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, introduces play-based and experiential learning to foster children’s cognitive growth and emotional well-being.
The “Jaadu Pedi” contains everyday items designed to teach practical applications through interactive methods. Aimed at children aged 3 to 8, these kits emphasise foundational skills in language and mathematics, making learning both engaging and effective.
With an estimated cost of ₹20,000 per kit and a state-wide rollout in 45,000 schools, the project comes with a significant Rs 90,000-crore budget allocation. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi lauded the initiative, describing it as a transformational step for foundational education. The concept was initially introduced by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan in February 2023 to promote “Learning through Play.”
This pioneering initiative is expected to bridge gaps in early childhood education and equip young minds with essential skills for their future learning journey.
