In a significant move aimed at enhancing public service delivery and efficiency, Odisha’s Revenue Department has directed District Collectors to ensure that revenue officers focus exclusively on revenue-related tasks.
This directive, issued by Revenue Minister Suresh Pujari, mandates that Revenue Inspectors (RI), Assistant Revenue Inspectors (ARI), and Amin personnel will no longer be assigned non-revenue duties.
The decision comes in response to concerns raised by the Odisha State Revenue Field Officers’ Association, which highlighted that revenue officers were frequently tasked with non-revenue work by officials from other departments, often without the knowledge of their Tehsildars. This practice was found to severely impact the efficiency and effectiveness of public service delivery.
Minister Pujari emphasized the need for reforms to make the administration more people-centric. “The Revenue Department is a crucial part of the government. We are implementing reforms to improve its efficiency and make it more accessible and productive for the general public,” he stated.
The directive also includes plans to amend several laws and repeal redundant regulations to streamline governance and improve efficiency. This move is expected to significantly enhance the focus and productivity of revenue officers, ensuring better service delivery to the public.
District Collectors have been instructed to strictly adhere to this directive and ensure compliance among all revenue personnel.
