Efforts have officially begun to repatriate five orangutan infants rescued in Odisha back to Indonesia.
According to an official statement issued by the Embassy of India in Jakarta, cross-border diplomatic and administrative steps are underway to ensure their safe return.
Before initiation of the transfer, authorities must accurately determine the species and exact geographical origin of the primates. The repatriation will proceed only after completing all necessary regulatory standards, CITES compliance, and legal guidelines.
To facilitate this process, a team of wildlife experts from Indonesia’s Ministry of Forestry will travel to India. The delegation will inspect the infants, assist with identification procedures, and help fulfil technical formalities required for cross-border wildlife transport.
Currently housed under expert veterinary supervision, the infants were saved from illegal wildlife trafficking networks. This diplomatic initiative highlights growing cooperation between India and Indonesia to combat wildlife trade and ensure animal welfare.
