Odisha continues to face a sharp drop in temperatures as a severe cold wave sweeps across the state. Districts such as Kandhamal, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, and Khordha are experiencing some of the season’s coldest conditions, leaving residents struggling with the chilly weather.

Early morning reports show that Jharsuguda recorded 11°C at 5:30 am on Tuesday, while G. Udayagiri in Kandhamal registered an even colder 5.4°C, making it one of the coldest locations in Odisha. On Monday alone, six towns recorded temperatures below 10°C, signalling a deepening winter phase.

Dense fog has added to the difficulty, with several regions reporting poor visibility until around 11 am. This has caused significant disruption to daily life—particularly affecting road transport, slowing vehicle movement, and challenging commuters across the state.

The state capital, Bhubaneswar, has also been under a persistent cold spell, contributing to the widespread discomfort. However, there is relief in sight. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), temperatures are expected to rise by 2 to 3°C from today, easing conditions in both coastal and interior districts.

In coastal Odisha, the mercury had earlier dipped by 3 to 5°C, but weather experts anticipate improvement. Interior regions are also likely to experience more comfortable temperatures from today, offering welcome respite from the biting cold.
